Schalkenmehren is a village in the Daun district in the Eifel and lies directly on the banks of the Schalkenmehren Maar. The maar is a popular excursion destination and offers numerous opportunities for relaxation and leisure activities.
You can swim in the lake, go boating, fish or simply enjoy the sun at the bathing establishment. There are also various restaurants and cafés around the lake that invite you to linger.
Schalkenmehren is also a good starting point for hikes in the surrounding Vulkaneifel and other maars in the region.
The village itself, with its historic church and well-kept half-timbered houses, is also a worthwhile destination for a walk.
